A Gangster themed party usually relates back to the 1920's when the men would have been clean cut, booted and suited in their zoot suits and Fedoras. The Ladies or "gangsters molls" would have been just as elaborate and more notably in their "flapper dresses".

Ok so you have received an invite to go to a "Gangster Themed Fancy Dress Party" and you are short on ideas.
Firstly you need to decide on just how classy or casual you want to be. For the men you may want to go the whole way and have the suit, moustache, suspender braces, white shirt with arm bands, spats shoes, Tommy gun and violin case to give you that Al Capone or Bonnie and Clyde look. For the ladies it could be a roaring 20's flapper dress complete with long pearl necklaces, cigarette holder, garter, handbag, headband, feather boa and T strap shoes.

Remember the 1920's / 30's were at the time of the Art Deco period and men and women were turned out really sharp and liked to show off their wealth. Ladies began to wear shorter dresses for the first time and had their hair done short in almost a boyish type look with flat bosoms and no hips.

For the Ladies the Charleston look was a must have look back in the 1920's with lots of feathers and tasselled flapper dresses and not forgetting the filtered cigarette holder and feather boa.

Hopefully here at Party On Fancy Dress we have now given you some ideas as to what you would like to consider for your 1920's gangster themed fancy dress party.
