So who will you be this Christmas? Firstly you need to decide on what celebrity you want to be, whether it's a movie icon, pop legend or any other well known 80's character. One of our best selling women's fancy dress costumes this year as been the Kylie Minogue outfit taken from the video " can't get you outta my head" Kylie Minogue "can't get you outta my head" Fancy Dress Costume The top selling men's 80's fancy dress costume is the Freddy Mercury yellow jacket and white trousers seen in this video below........ Freddy Mercury Other favourite 80's fancy dress ideas are Boy George, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Adam Ant. Neon Mesh tops were also a favourite worn by the fashion trend setters of the 80's and also not to mention in the early 80's the Punk Rock look was still very much in fashion. Such mega stars has Cyndi Lauper and Madonna introduced the fashion world to the neon mesh tutu....... ![]() The 80's music scene was probably on par with the 60's as regards the revolutionary changes that were being made in the music industry and how we were moving from one genre to another. The 70's was a mixture of disco and then slowly progressing onto Punk Rock with bands such as The Sex Pistols towards the late 70's. The early 80's saw a new beginning as Punk Rock started to give way to Ska music with such bands as Madness, The Specials, The Beat etc. As Ska music was beginning to run it's course a whole bunch of great new 80's bands were about to burst onto the scene for the very first time and one of my most memorable was Adam and the Ants. They were totally different to what we had scene in the past with their heavy drum beats and fantastic music with an outrageously dressed front man Adam Ant himself. My next memory was the beginning of the New Romantics and one of the first bands have to be Duran Duran. I never forget seeing them on top of the pops singing Planet Earth. They were absolutely fantastic and went on to make many brilliant records and some even said that they were the Beatles of the 80's. The New Romantic era was leg warmers, mesh tops , pixie boots with corduroy trousers and not forgetting the must have hairstyle the infamous "bob". 80's music saw the advent of synthesizers and electronic pop and there were some amazing bands around like Japan, Eurythmics, ABC and Frankie goes to Hollywood. I think everybody I knew back then had a "Frankie says Relax" T-Shirt. Other fond memories of the 80's fashion era were the outrageous hair do's, make up and brightly coloured necklaces and earrings. Many New Romantics back then and men included had their hair dyed whether it be burgundy, blonde and black, red or pink streaks it was totally the fashion. I remember seeing guys in clubs wearing blusher and lipstick for the first time and thought what a great fashion this New Romantic look was. Now you know a little more of what the 80's was about why not try that New Romantic Fancy Dress look yourself. Share this blog entry: |
