Halloween Party Treats, Recipes And Cocktailsposted on 24 October 2011 | posted in Halloween Party Treats And RecipesHalloween is now only 1 week away and the fancy dress costumes are selling out fast. Mums and Dads are stocking up with their party treats and preparing for the onslaught of trick or treaters that will be calling on Halloween night. For those that are planning a party whether it be for the children or adults we have a few ideas and recipes for you to try out. The children will be excited to dine on witches fingers or mummy pizzas and get them into the Halloween spirit. Mummy Dogs Mummy dogs are a party favourite in our house and so easy to prepare. Serve with blood dripping ketchup or green food colouring in mayo "slime".Ingredients 1 (11 oz) Of ready made puff pastry. 8 hot dogs black mustard seeds Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. 2. If desired, place one cheddar cheese slice on your hot dog. Then wrap each dog to look like a mummy, leaving a open area for the eyes. 3. Cut two tiny slits in the exposed hot dog and insert two black mustard seeds for eyes. If you'd like to give your mummies entire faces, you can cut a little slit for a mouth, which will gape open a bit during cooking. 4. Place mummy dogs on an ungreased baking sheet and bake around 15 minutes, until golden. 5. Serve with plenty of ketchup and mustard and listen to the kids rave about having such Halloween recipes fun. ![]() Pumpkin Pie Halloween night is not complete without pumpkin pie. Once that you have hollowed out your Jack O" lantern and sculpted it into your most scariest effige yet, you may then use the contents to create a delicious pumpkin pie. Ingredients Sweet short crust pastry case (or a packet of ready made sweet short crust pastry with 40g/1½oz crushed pecans mixed in.) 450 g/1lb prepared weight pumpkin flesh, cut into 1in/2.5 cm chunks 2 large eggs plus 1 yolk (use the white for another dish) 3 oz/75g soft dark brown sugar 1 tsp ground cinnamon ½ level teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg ½ tsp ground allspice ½ tsp ground cloves ½ tsp ground ginger 10 fl oz/275 ml double cream Pre-heat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4. ![]() Use a shop bought sweet crust pastry case, about 9 inch/23 cm diameter and 1½ inches/4 cm deep. To make the filling, steam the pumpkin then place in a coarse sieve and press lightly to extract any excess water. Then lightly whisk the eggs and extra yolk together in a large bowl. Place the sugar, spices and the cream in a pan, bring to simmering point, giving it a whisk to mix everything together. Then pour it over the eggs and whisk it again briefly. Now add the pumpkin pureé, still whisking to combine everything thoroughly. Pour the filling into your pastry case and bake for 35-40 minutes, by which time it will puff up round the edges but still feel slightly wobbly in the centre. Remove the pie from the oven and place the tin on a wire cooling rack. Serve chilled (stored loosely covered in foil in the fridge) with some equally chilled créme fraïche or cream, but warm or at room temperature would be fine. ![]() Halloween Cocktail A very cheeky Halloween cocktail which is one of my favourites is this this scary pumpkin faced Bourbon and Orange. Ingredients 3 oz orange juice Juice of half lemon Ginger ale Garnish - Halloween olive Mix bourbon, orange juice and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour into a tall glass. Top with ginger ale and garnish with Halloween-faced olives. (To make the Halloween olives, choose large unpitted green olives). Serve at your Halloween Party and see the delight on your guests faces as the scary pumpkin olive faces glare back at them. ![]() Share this blog entry: |
